Galeton Rotary Club News

The Galeton Rotary Club met Thursday May 18 at the Permastone Inn for it's regular weekly meeting.

The program was a talk by Rev. Tom Shatto. Rev. Tom updated the club about the after school program at the Galeton Area School. Rev Tom was the founder of Gale Pride and he is the president of that organization. The program is called "Learning Out Loud" (LOL) and there are 50 students signed up for the program. The instruction covers many subjects of interest for the students and lasts about 2 hours after school.

Rev. Tom put this program together with AmeriCorps. This was financed with the help of the Gale Foundation and the Shared Ministry (St. Paul and First Presbyterian Churches). The instructors are a part of the AmeriCorp program and volunteers.

Rev. Tom is on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers and spoke about this excellent program and how it is set up to benefit the communities in this area. CFTT currently administers 82 different community funds in the twin tiers. The assets of the CFTT now exceeds five million dollars.

Finally, Rev Tom spoke about a program called "Ben Franklin Circles". The Ben Franklin Circles are a bold initiative that brings people together in face-to-face salons driven by two simple goals: TWO HELP US IMPROVE OURSELVES AND TO HELP US IMPROVE OUR WORLD.

This will be a program of the Shared Ministry.

Rev, Tom Shatto is the pastor of the Shared Ministry Churches, St. Paul Lutheran and First Presbyterian Churches.
